Questions to Consider

  1. Do you belong to a professional organization(s) in your field?  Does it publish a journal?  What are their editorial policies?
  2. Do you present at conferences? Are the conference proceedings published?
  3. Have you considered online/open access journals including the Lesley online Journal of Pedagogy, Pluralism and Practice?
  4. Do you check the Calls for Papers?
  5. Do you belong to any listservs or other SIGs (Special Interest Groups)?

Choosing a Journal

How do you decide which journal you should submit your article to?  Here are some points to consider:

  • Is the journal peer reviewed? Editorial Board reviewed? A trade or professional publication?
  • What are the publisher's policies on Author Responsibilities, Open Access, and copyright?
  • How often does the journal publish?
  • What is the journal's acceptance rate?
  • How long does it take from submission to publication?
