Videatives: Digital Video Clips for Early Childhood Education

Use video clips to observe child development principles in real life situations.

"Videatives make general principles of child development and early education come to life. Students learn to "see what children know", not through testing, but through careful observation. Teachers have higher-level conversations with children. Help children reflect on their actions and offer them better support for their thinking".

 Predefined searches include subject, age or tags.

How to Link to the Videatives Collection in Blackboard

1. Open BlackBoard and go to the Content Area where you want to place the link
2. In the Build Content dropdown click on "Web Link"
3. Give the Link a name - typically the title of the video
4. Paste the url in the url text box (see Finding Library URLs below) 
5. If you want to you may add information about it in the Descriptions box
6. In Options click both "Permit Users to View Content" and "Open in New Window"
7. Click "Submit"

  • Go to the Videatives collection.
  • Copy the link in the address bar and put the proxy prefix http://ezproxyles.flo.org/login?url=  in front of it if you don't see it in the url.
  • Paste the entire link in your course.

To locate the link URL to a particluar clip or clips:

  • Go to the Videatives collection and click on a clip.
  • Create a playlist or add the video to an existing playlist (see directions in Creating Playlists tab below if needed)
  • If you create a new playlist it will appear on the bottom of the My Playlists page.
  • If you created a playlist,  set it to "public" and then click "share"  -  a link to that playlist will be provided (it will be very long)
  • Paste the entire link in your course.

  • Please note: Using this method, students will ONLY have access to the playlist or clip for which you've provided a link. To access the full collection, students will need to be signed into MyLesley and enter through the main Videatives collection link, either from the Online Video Guide or the Library database page.
