New DOI Formatting Option
APA now accepts two formatting choices when including the DOI in your reference: the version given in the 6th edition of the APA Publication Manual and a new option in the form of a URL. Here is an example of the same DOI in these two formats:
Note that the DOI number itself is the same in both versions (10.1037/rmh0000008); only the prefix is changed (doi: or http://dx.doi.org/). The second example shows the new option, which creates a working web link.
For more on this change and how to include the DOI in your citation, please see the full APA blog entry at: http://blog.apastyle.org/apastyle/2014/07/how-to-use-the-new-doi-format-in-apa-style.html or the Lesley handout DOI & Other Changes in the 6th Edition.
