  • Art Image Research Guide
Use the AIB Library's Art Image research guide to find links to our image databases. These contain high quality images and metadata (captions) with the information you will need to cite.

Start with reference sources

Use reference sources to get background information on a photographer.

Having background information provides context for your research. If you can not find much by searching an artist's name, you might instead search by the techniques used, years at work or major art movements and eras.

  • Biography Resource Center
Find biographies for artists working in all disciplines with full-text magazine articles, images, and website links. Includes: Contemporary Photographers. 3rd ed. Detroit: St. James Press, 1996.
  • CREDO Reference
Searches more than 300+ reference books online. Includes: History sources and general encyclopedias, which are good for learning the context of a work of art in its time period or discipline.

Search for articles about photography

Start with these two art databases for your photography topics. For more search options, choose from our complete list of databases

Bibliographies - yours and others

We cite so that authors and artists receive credit for their original scholarship.

Our AIB Library research help page has citation examples and tools to help you do this in your paper.

TIP!
Be sure to look for bibliographies when reviewing books, articles or online sources about your topic. These will quickly lead you to relevant material which has already been vetted.
