Reserves Removal
Reserve materials are removed at the end of each semester and eReserves are taken down. Personal items must be retrieved one week after classes end. Personal items not picked up by the faculty member will be returned via interoffice mail. The library will not assume responsibility for personal items not removed by faculty. The library is not responsible for handing back tests, papers, artwork, etc. These items may not be put on the Reserve shelf.
About Reserves
Reserves are course materials (books, articles, etc.) placed on specific loan periods by faculty each semester. Course Reserves are searched by Faculty Name, Department, or Course on the Library FLO Catalog – Course Reserve tab.
IN-LIBRARY: Reserve materials held at the main Circulation Desks can circulate for 2 hours, in-house only; for 24 hours, 48 hours, or one week. Borrowers present their current Lesley ID to the Circulation Staff to borrow material. Reserve materials are loaned two at a time.
ELECTRONIC: Journal articles are accessed online through FLO Catalog – Course Reserve tab. CURRENTLY ELECTRONIC RESERVES ARE AVAILABLE TO ON-CAMPUS COURSES ONLY. Access restricted to AIB/Lesley students.
Materials from the Libraries’ main collections (including books, juvenile books, and journal articles) are handled through the Collection Services Department at Sherrill or the Circulation Desk at AIB. Videos and other media are handled at the Kresge Center for Teaching Resources, located at University Hall or at the Circulation Desk at AIB.
Placing Materials on Reserve
Depending on your needs, please fill out either an Article Form, or a Book Form (or both). These can be downloaded in Microsoft Word in the box to the left or picked up at the Circulation Desks.
Submit completed forms in person at the Circulation Desks, by campus mail (Attention: Library Reserves), or email Dianne Brown (dbrown7@lesley.edu) for Sherrill Library; Raye Yankauskas (ryankaus@lesley.edu) for AIB requests. For media requests, please contact Robyn Ferrero (rferrero@lesley.edu) in the Kresge Center.
Library staff will process Reserve requests in the order in which they are
received. At peak periods please allow up to two weeks for processing.
For the Sherrill Library policy on copyright permissions for Course
Reserves, please see the following page in this guide, entitled "Copyright & Fair Use."
What Can Be Placed on Reserve?
Placing journal articles on eReserve (Currently available to on-campus classes only):
Please search the Lesley Libraries Journals List to find journal articles the Library subscribes to either in print form or on a database. Articles from print journals will be scanned ; articles from databases will be linked to. For faculty owned copies of articles that the libraries do not subscribe to, we request a PDF or single copy only and will create an Electronic Reserve copy of the reading.
In accepting copies for Reserves purposes, the library assumes that the copies have been made in accordance with Fair Use or been lawfully obtained with copyright permission granted.
Please review the Fair Use Checklist (http://www.copyright.cornell.edu/policy/Fair_Use_Checklist.pdf).
Books or unpublished material:
Books or unpublished material will be put on reserve as quickly as possible. These may be library owned or personal copies. If the Libraries do not own the book, the Library may purchase the title. However, this does not apply to textbooks, since the Libraries’ collection development policy does not permit the purchase of textbooks. If the library is not able to purchase a requested Reserve, the faculty person will be asked to provide one. The library will protect the personal item but will not assume responsibility for damage or lost items. Due to space concerns and staff limitations, the libraries maintain a limit of 25 books per course.
AIB & Lesley/EDS-owned books can be placed on reserve at either library. Please ask staff to request an item from AIB or Sherrill.
Placing other items and student papers on Course Reserve:
The Library, when requested by a faculty member, will place on reserve a copy of a chapter, a short story, a graph, chart, picture, cartoon, poem, short essay, provided such copying conforms to Fair Use. In accepting copies for Reserves, the library assumes that the copies have been made in accordance with Fair Use or been lawfully obtained with copyright permission granted.
Student papers may be placed on reserve with written permission of the students (Permission form is linked to on the left). Guidelines allow one photocopy for every 15 students in a class. Multiple copies are, and remain, the property of the faculty member, who is responsible for complying with the Copyright Act.
Note: Due to copyright restrictions the following items (or photocopies of these items) can NOT be placed on reserve: a workbook, test, test booklet, answer sheet, or course pack.
