Library Course Reserves are available at both libraries; CLAS, GSOE, and GSASS reserves are available at Sherrill, while LA+D reserves are available at Moriarty.
Course Reserves can be searched by Faculty Name and Course Name on the FLO Catalog under the Course Reserve tab.
Reserve materials are shelved at the Info Desk and circulate for 2 or 3 hours, in-library only; or, for 24 hours, 48 hours, or one week. Borrowers present their current Lesley ID to borrow material. Reserve materials are loaned two at a time.
The libraries do not create electronic reserves. For materials which have been scanned by the library, faculty will upload the item into their course's Blackboard instance. It is expected that faculty will ensure that the use of the resource is in accordance with copyright and fair use guidelines.
For journal articles that the library owns in print only, faculty may request the article(s) be scanned by the library and emailed to the faculty using the Print Journal Scan Request form.
The library does not scan book chapters for classes that meet in person. Books from which a faculty member would like to assign a chapter may be placed on reserve instead. For distance classes, email libraryreserves@lesley.edu.
For electronic resources in library databases, faculty will create persistent links containing the library's proxy prefix to provide to the students, either via their syllabus or via Blackboard. Please note that students cannot access material from unproxied links while off campus. For questions or assistance with creating persistent links, please email asklib@lesley.edu.
Please contact libraryreserves@lesley.edu with any questions or for further assistance.
Books and other print materials:
The Libraries will place on reserve books and DVDs owned by the library, or personal copies furnished by the faculty member. If the Libraries do not own the title, faculty members may request that the library purchase the title by emailing libraryreserves@lesley.edu. Please note that the Library is happy to place personal copies of textbooks on hold, but due to the prohibitively high costs associated with the textbook publishing cycle, the Libraries’ collection development policy does not permit the purchase of textbooks. If the library is not able to purchase a requested Reserve, the faculty person will be asked to provide one. The library will protect the personal item but will not assume responsibility for damage or lost items. Due to space concerns and staff limitations, the libraries maintain a limit of 25 books per course.
Placing other items and student papers on Course Reserve:
The Library, when requested by a faculty member, will place on reserve a copy of a chapter, a short story, a graph, chart, picture, cartoon, poem, short essay, provided such copying conforms to Fair Use. In accepting copies for Reserves, the library assumes that the copies have been made in accordance with Fair Use or been lawfully obtained with copyright permission granted.
Student papers may be placed on Reserve with permission; see permission form above.
Note: Due to copyright restrictions, photocopies of the following items can not be placed on reserve: a workbook, test, test booklet, answer sheet, or course pack.
Reserve materials are removed at the end of each semester. Personal items must be retrieved one week after classes end. Personal items not picked up by the faculty member will be returned via interoffice mail. The library can not assume responsibility for personal items not removed by faculty. Please note: graded student work may not be left at the Desk for students to pick up.
