A research guide created for students in the illustration program at Lesley Art + Design

Research

For in-depth research help, including tips and tools, visit the Art & Design Research Guide, which has links to other LUCAD guides as well!

For resources to help with finding, citing, and legally using visual media, check out the Visual Media Guide

When doing research, try starting with @LL Search, it searches everything @ Lesley Library, including journal databases, book catalogs, eBook libraries, encyclopedia entries, newspaper articles, and streaming media!

Citing

  • OWL Purdue Citation Manual
    • Scroll through the different types of resources to make sure you're citing the specific format correctly
  • Look for an automatic "cite" button, or a citation provided for you, because a lot of databases and websites that are aiming to be informative will make it easier for you.
  • Try Googling "MLA citation ______" with a type of resource to find out if there's a specific way to cite it. For example if you search for MLA citation government report you get a format guide with citation examples.
  • If you use an automatic citation generator, check the full list of formats to make sure you're choosing the right one:
