The Library on Racism is a unique resource located a half block from the Massachusetts State House in Boston. All materials deal with race, racism, multiculturalism, and diversity, including many hard-to-find titles. The library contains about 2,000 adult books and 200 children's books, as well as 200 video tapes available for on-site viewing; 130 topical files, including essays, articles, and news clippings; and nearly 200 filed reports from state advisory committees to the U.S. Civil Rights Commission.
The Library is a free lending library. Visitors are welcome to borrow books for 2 or 3 weeks. New users are asked to register and pay a one-time fee of $5.00 as a gesture of commitment to preserve the library collection. Although posted hours are Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm, visitors are invited to call ahead to arrange an evening or weekend visit.
