Borrow & Request

What is Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service available to Lesley University students, faculty, and staff that allows them to borrow books, journal articles, book chapters, conference proceedings, dissertations and theses, and audiovisual materials not owned by Lesley Library and not available through Fenway Libraries Online (FLO).

Before You Place a Request

First, please be sure to review our full ILL Policy.

Then, be sure what you need isn't already in our collection or available for free on the Internet:

  • If you need a book or book chapter, article, conference proceeding, or audiovisual media, type the title into our @LL Search discovery tool to make sure the Lesley Library and the FLO institutions don't have access to it.
  • If you a need thesis or dissertation, check our theses and dissertations databases to see if it's there.
  • For all material, check Google Scholar to see if an Open Access copy is available.

We recommend seeking assistance from our Research Librarians before placing ILLiad requests for the first time.

How to Place a Request

  • ILL requests are made and fulfilled using our ILL software called ILLiad.
  • Use your myLesley username and password to login at https://lesley.illiad.oclc.org/illiad/logon.html.
  • First time users must create an account before placing a request.

WE WILL CANCEL REQUESTS THAT EXCEED:

  • 1 article per issue of a journal
  • 1 chapter per book
  • 5 articles from the 5 most recent years of the same publication

WE MAY CANCEL REQUESTS THAT CAN BE FOUND AT OUR LIBRARY, A FLO LIBRARY, OR FOR FREE ON THE INTERNET.

Limits & Peak Periods

Limits are placed on the number of requests a library user can place to ensure the research needs of all populations are met. Limits are are follows:

  • Undergraduate Students- No requests permitted unless approved by a Research Librarian
  • Masters Students- up to 5 requests per month during peaks periods (March, April, October and November) or up to 5 requests per day all other times
  • PhD Students- up to 5 requests per day
  • Faculty & Staff- up to 5 requests per day

If you need to exceed the limit above, please contact a Research Librarian for clearance at asklib@lesley.edu.

Renewals

  • ILLiad items must be renewed BEFORE THE DUE DATE and only one renewal is allowed.
  • Renewal policies and periods are determined by the lending library, not by Lesley University, so be prepared to return the item immediately if renewal is not granted.
  • To request a renewal, login to your ILLiad account, open the request and click “Request Renewal” at the top of that page.
  • You will receive an automated email notification whether or not your renewal was granted.

Overdue ILLiad Items

If you keep an ILLiad item for longer than its due date, it damages our standing with the lending library from whom we borrowed the item and compromises our ability to request items from them in the future, so please return your items by the due date.

Students: If you keep an ILLiad item for longer than its due date, we may place a hold on your bursar account until the item is returned to us.
