Resources for Arts Professionals

This is an evolving guide that provides new and aspiring arts professionals with information about funding, jobs, residencies, workshops, and other useful "professional development" resources.

Additional Income Streams for Artists

Passive income typically involves a lot of work to set up, but then you just have to do some maintenance here and there.  Check out the options below, and try searching the internet for advice from other artists, because there are new revenue streams and opportunities popping up online all the time.

You can apply to be a Getty contributor, so that your artwork appears in the Getty library for their subscribers, and on iStock for people to license.  You retain ownership of your images, so you can still post them yourself, or license them to multiple people.  After you've been a non-exclusive contributor for a while, you can apply to be an exclusive contributor, but then you'd sell your work to Getty and you wouldn't own it anymore.

Learn more

You can build a YouTube channel, it takes a while to get monetized so you might as well start now!  You can upload tutorials, cozy artmaking sessions, reviews of art materials, etc.  Some people make active income on Twitch, streaming their digital artmaking, and then they upload the recording of the livestream to YouTube.

Consignment Agreements

Local shops and galleries might take your work on consignment, so you would drop off art prints, stickers, buttons, etc. and if they sell any, they send you a check for your agreed-upon percentage.  If they don't sell, you take them back.  This is a great low-risk way to get your work into shops.

Digital Downloads

Your can sell one work as a digital download to multiple people, on multiple sites. Try cross-posting to different shops like your own web portfolio shop, Etsy, Amazon, etc.
